Jeff Brenner, Esq., NJLPI
Jeff plays a key role on the team in the areas of incident response/forensic analysis, and provides the team with the added skills of an experienced trial attorney and licensed private investigator. His training as a lawyer and investigator is invaluable to our clients when it comes to the collection of evidence in data breach situations.
He has testified in both state and federal court as an investigator and as an expert in computer forensics. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, Cook College and a juris doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law. Jeff is an associate member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, and an approved lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute on the topic of Computer Forensics.
Chris Shull CISSP, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, FIP
Chris leads delivery of Black Cipher’s cybersecurity and privacy leadership and transformation services, applying an uncommon ability of make information security and data privacy understandable, and bringing communications gaps between business, technical and legal professionals.
He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Information Privacy Professional for Europe and the United States, Certified Information Privacy Manager, and has been named a Fellow in Information Privacy by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
He has over 25 years’ experience delivering, implementing and managing private, public and hybrid cloud-based information technologies, leading InfoSec teams and efforts from both the vendor and company sides using the ISO, NIST and CSA CCM frameworks to address needs for SOC2, HIPAA, SOX, PCI/DSS and NY DFS 500. Chris earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA from the Wharton School.
Kai is the founding partner of Black Cipher and spearheads the firm’s cybersecurity services. With over 15 years experience in IT and 10 years experience in cybersecurity, he brings a vast wealth of knowledge and skill that has proven invaluable to our clients. He holds numerous IT security certifications under the auspices of Carbon Black, Fortinet, EC-Council, CompTIA, and Offensive Security.
Before founding Black Cipher, Kai worked for Lockheed-Martin where he played a pivotal role in keeping the network secure. This was achieved through performing vulnerability detection & remediation (EVAN), password management (CyberArk), and information security policy enforcement.
As a regular contributor on the topic of cybersecurity, he has written articles for the NJ Law Journal, NJ Business Magazine, ALTA, PICPA, IT Security Central and Bankrate.com. For seminars and workshops, he has presented for NJCPA, NJAPA, NJMGMA, NJHIMMS, IAPP, Philadelphia,PA and Burlington/Camden County, NJ Bar Associations.
Larry J. Hershman
Larry is a critical member of the Black Cipher management team, providing expertise and leadership in the areas of business process, data compliance and project management. Larry has spent over 25 years in management and technology consulting, helping companies to adopt the appropriate technologies in order to achieve their business goals.
His expertise and understanding of cyber security concepts and the application of compliance requirements has been honed through his leadership of many security and compliance initiatives, including Payment Card Industry (PCI) readiness projects, Title Industry ALTA Best Practices certifications, HIPAA compliance reviews and law firm data governance.
Larry’s professional organizational memberships include Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), InfraGard and Institute of Management Consultancy. He received his Bachelor’s in Computer Science from Temple University.
